Hassan Aliyu was born in London. In his early childhood he moved with his family to Nigeria. Studying fine art, he graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria's leading art institution, winning the Nigerian Arts Council award for best final year student. In the following years he exhibited in Lagos at the British Council, the National Gallery of Modern Art, the National Museum and the National Gallery of Crafts and Design.

   

Since returning to the UK in 1990, Hassan has produced his work from various studios in London, participated in one-person and group exhibitions and executed private and public art commissions.
